Karl Minta is a PhD Researcher and recent First-Class BEng Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Southampton. His academic background and technical expertise are focused on the resilience, sustainability, and dynamic performance of civil infrastructure. His doctoral research, titled Resilience-based design of composite segmental bridges using low-carbon materials, aims to develop innovative structural solutions for regions of high seismic activity. By investigating the implementation of elastomeric bearings between column segments, he seeks to safely absorb and dissipate compressional and tensile seismic energy, thereby mitigating the impact damage typically seen in rocking bridge segments. Furthermore, his research integrates the use of recycled aggregates and cement-free concrete for flexible bridge piers and abutments, positioning his work at the forefront of sustainable, next-generation infrastructure design.
